The All Round Companion Hunter - Breeding for Soundness, Temperament, Working and Show.

My dogs happily go from sleeping on the bed .. to swimming the widest river .. to searching out feather or fur game .. to strutting their stuff in the show ring .. and back home to be lap dogs and loved pets! They have also successfully competed in agility, obedience and field trials.

My involvement with Vizslas began in 1990. A growing dedication to the breed has seen me set out to learn as much as I can. This includes joining international lists and discussing the breed with people around the world, traveling to different countries to see other dogs, importing semen and starting a national breed newsletter.

My dedication continues with an education campaign to help new people understand the breed and give an idea about breeders responsibilities. This is supported by articles I have written and had published, web pages, a VizslaNZ yahoo list and a booklet I have written on the subject (booklet available by email – just email me and ask or go to http://trader.co.nz/dogtrain/articles.htm to read this and some of my other articles).

It is exciting to see ‘my’ dogs earning their keep with the hunters, enjoying themselves in competition activities, prancing around the show ring and, most importantly, becoming loved and trusted family members for so many people.

Our first introduction to Vizsla was when we purchased Taz (Essential Gold of Hi-VIz) in 2003. We fell in love with the short hair, velvet golden coat, the eagerness to please, and the gentle yet energetic nature of our dog. We added a bitch, Ponsonby Golden Ruby. In 2012 we registered Shemariah Kennels with DOGSNZ. All our dogs are hip and elbow-scored. As a hunter I have primarily bred for the hunting fraternity, keeping the odd pup to continue our wonderful lines.

As a passionate Pedigree Jersey cow breeder, my breeding has been greatly influenced by my understanding that form dictates function. Without correct confirmation, both longevity and a physically productive life are compromised. Hence, I have established lines using Show Champion Dogs where possible. Never just using "Zac" down the road because he is an awesome hunter.
In more recent years I have endeavoured to expand the NZ bloodlines by importing semen from 3 different dogs from Europe. Again, my selection criteria has been around excellence in conformation and National or International show winnings, combined with a very strong hunting lineage and prowess.
Today we are excited to have dogs from both Quatro Magyar-Tim PP1 and Facanvadasz Ambrus, each with numerous titles in show and field and excellent health traits.
A Shemariah dog comes with confidence that they should excel in the ring and field.
We offer a lifetime of support to all our buyers. https://www.facebook.com/groups/690609638424896

We have established our Folkvangr Kennel after being involved with the breed for many years, during that time learning a huge amount from breeders in NZ and overseas.

We have shown Hungarian Vizsla's we have owned to their conformation titles in NZ, all of them earning group and show awards along the way. We have also exposed them to hunt tests with only the limitations of the handler slowing their progress, we plan to get involved in Field trialing in the future as we believe it is important for the breed to be recognised for not only conformation but hunting prowess also.

Now living in Australia we had our first litter here in 2019. We are so happy with the puppies , and have kept the female. We can’t wait to get her into the show ring.

Our waiting list for puppies is currently full.

Our journey to breed these beautiful animals began with the first vizsla to join our family, at Christmas time 2017. We are keen outdoors people, and love the passion vizslas show for joining in anything we are doing. With their gorgeous colour, athletic build and movement, they are a pleasure to watch and joy to have around. The versatile vizsla will take an active part in all of your life, from curling up at your feet while you read a book, to happily riding in the boat or trotting beside you hiking, to learning any training discipline you are interested in. Your vizsla will truly be a family member and loving companion, and have a great sense of humour! We are breeding because of our passion for these loving and fun dogs, for soundness, temperament, and hunting/ working ability. Our dogs have been carfully selected to promote these qualities. We currently train ours for hunting as deer indicator dogs. They also visit resthomes and cafes, come horseriding and love family gatherings, even enjoying practising trick moves at the gym. We welcome any enquiries, so give me a call if you'd like to talk about your vizsla, or are thinking you might enjoy one of these lovely animals.
