Prefix : LEONRUA (Leonberger)
Leonrua Leonbergers is a Dogs New Zealand registered Leonberger kennel based in Mid-Canterbury, South Island. We welcomed our first Leonberger in 2013 and established Leonrua in 2019, with a strong focus on temperament, health and genetic diversity.
Before breeding, we spent years researching pedigrees, international kennels and bloodlines, with the aim of broadening the Leonberger gene pool in New Zealand. Leonrua has developed strong relationships with experienced breeders overseas and our programme includes carefully selected European genetics from Sweden, Poland, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Ireland, the Netherlands, Denmark, Hungary, Belgium and Russia.
Every Leonrua mating is individually planned and we do not do repeat litters. Breeding dogs are health tested for eyes, hips (PennHIP), elbows (Lavelle), LPN1, LPN2, LPN3 and LEMP, with results available through the Worldwide Independent Leonberger Database.
Our puppies are born and raised in our home using Puppy Culture principles, with regular handling and exposure to household sounds, people, dogs, cats, chickens and cattle.
Leonrua is an active member of the Leonberger Club in New Zealand, with previous service as Club President, and we provide lifelong support to our puppy owners.
Enquiries are welcome from families throughout New Zealand, including Christchurch, Canterbury and the South Island. We use a puppy questionnaire & interview, and generally have a long waiting list, so early contact is encouraged!
