AmigoReal is a Chihuahua kennel based in Christchurch and registered with Dogs New Zealand. Meaning “Royal Friend” in Spanish, our name honours foundation bitch Harriet, whose intelligence, loyalty and regal character inspired our breeding programme.
Health, sound structure, temperament and correct Chihuahua type guide our decisions. Breeding dogs complete DNA testing and veterinary assessment of the eyes, heart, patellas, hips and thyroid. Results are considered alongside pedigree, development, family history and the qualities a proposed pairing may produce.
Dogs bred by AmigoReal have been recognised at Breed, Group and In Show level under local and international judges. These achievements have been earned by multiple dogs from different litters, demonstrating consistency throughout our breeding programme.
Transparency is important to us. Health information is displayed within our dogs’ profiles, and our website documents our breeding dogs, pedigrees and every AmigoReal litter produced. This includes every puppy, not only those retained or awarded titles.

AmigoReal remains primarily focused on Long Coat Chihuahuas. However, Dogs New Zealand permits interbreeding between the Long Coat and Smooth Coat varieties, so carefully planned AmigoReal pairings may occasionally produce Smooth Coat puppies.
Smooth Coat puppies receive the same careful planning, health-tested parentage, home raising, and lifelong support as every Chihuahua bred by AmigoReal. They are never considered secondary to their Long Coat littermates, with the only difference being coat variety.
