2012 SHOW DOG OF THE YEAR RULES
(All Breeds)
These rules should be read in conjunction with
rules covering all pointscore competitions.
The Show Dog of the Year 2012 (All Breeds) competition is used to recognise an individual dog's achievements at a National (and Island) level when competing against other breeds.
Eligible results can be entered from any All Breeds Championship Show or Group Specialty Championship Show in New Zealand. For the purposes of the pointscore, a 'Group Specialty' Championship Show is a show where ALL the breeds from at least one (1) NZKC group are eligible to enter.
- Only the best 30 results (points value) will be included. The pointscore system will automatically select the best 30 results from the results that are submitted.
- Tie-Breaker - In the event that 2 or more dogs have the same number of points, the dog with the most 'Best in Show' wins (out of their top 30 results) will be placed first. If there is still not an outright leader, the number of Runner-Up in Show wins (out of the top 30 results) will be counted, and then if necessary, the Best in Group wins (out of the top 30 results).
- The following results are eligible.
- Best in Show
- Runner Up in Show (or Best in Show 2nd)
- Best in Group
- Runner Up in Group (or Best in Group 2nd)
- 3rd and 4th Show/Group placings (where awarded at a show) are NOT eligible for the competition.
- Only the highest award per exhibit per show will be counted.
- Points Allocation
Points will be allocated based on the number of dogs entered in the show / group (including absentees and baby puppies). Ensure you read and undertand the pointscore results guide so you know how to obtain and submit the correct number!
- Best in Show will be awarded points equal to the number of dogs entered in the Show
- Runner Up in Show will be awarded points equal to the number of dogs entered in the Show minus 1
- Best in Group will be awarded points equal to the number of dogs entered in the Group
- Runner Up in Group will be awarded points equal to the number of dogs entered in the Group minus 1
- The following rules apply to the island component of the Show Dog of the Year competition.
- For the purposes of the competition, a dog's 'island location', (herein referred to as the 'resident island') will be defined as the island where the dog has been resident for the majority of the year (when actively being shown).
- The 'island' tally will be calculated on the top 30 shows that were held on the dog's resident island. This could result in different shows being counted in the island and national component of the competition.
- Up to 4 results from shows held on the opposite island to the dog's 'resident island' can be included in the top 30 island tally for a dog. The system will automatically include these if necessary to give the dog the best total.
- In cases where it is difficult to define the 'resident Island', we will use our discretion to determine the 'resident Island' based on the facts presented. This decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into.
